I haven't been able to walk around the block for two years. Today, with support and encouragement from my psycologist, I finally did it!
I felt awful for a great deal of the time. We'd go to the next tree, the next sidewalk square; at one point I would take just one step. It took nearly an hour. But I did it and I know now that I can, shaky legs, heart pounding, racing heart and mind and all.
I feel some hope now. You all know how hard these things can be, but know that you CAN do it. Now I just have to keep doing it until I truly believe in myself. We can get better, we can live life.
I am so grateful to have a place to talk to people who'll understand just how special it is to be able to walk somewhere.

Excellent! When I first started having panic attacks, walking too far from home was rough. I would be fine in the car going to the store but once I got to the store, i had the "fight or flight" feelings.
One day I decided, 'I'm not leaving this store until I get rid of the panic'. I don't think I ever got rid of the panic but I walked around the store 3x (along the back wall) before I finally went to the register.
There are times I still go through similar situations but I believe that one experience (trying to fight it) helped me a great deal.
Good Luck! Keep going!

I remember when I first started leaving the house after a long time. It was so grueling to just get down the street and back. I got a bicycle and kept practicing and practicing and gradually I pushed the boundaries of my "safe zone" quite a ways. It takes a lot of courage. You should be very, very proud, and keep practicing

I'm so happy for you. You're a fighter. We're all fighters here. Don't get discouraged if you have a setback. Just remember we're all going through the same thing and we're all here for you. You give me great hope. I'm agoraphobic and the only thing I can really do is walk my dog. Life tests us. Keep fighting and keep us posted.
