In 1993 I was attacked, it was to go to Crown court. I was subjected to threats against my life, my home and my family. I started to become more and more frightended to go ou.

In the same year I had what is called a nervous breakdown. I was then sent to a hospital and a pyciologist then diagnosed that I had been suffering from Anxiety since I was young, some hard knocks in life, and often thumps.

By 1998 my life was a shell of what it was and then something happened, an argument with my family. I had given up, I attemped suicide, almost succeeded. It was said to be a miracle that I did not die. I was in a coma for months.

In 1999 I started to make my first moves toward finding ways to overcome my health, agrophobia was the biggest problem to me. I was dependant on having a car to go anywhere.

By 2001 I had started to make th e biggest forward movement I had ever made, I went out to a market on a Sunday morning, always with someone with me. The Market was a small affair, few people passed by, but the market was the key to my cure.

By 2002 I was starting to make my first moves outdoors on my own, and in 2003 I was then able to go to the Market alone.

All this took years, I had support from my friend at home, but in the end the cure I found was self help through graudually extending my safety zone. Each new day brings a new level of whwre my safety zone can reach. I now work in a large super store and I am happy there, but I drive to work even though I could walk, still I am fearful of making that walk across the short trip to work.

I am getting there, it has taken years, a lot of heartache and a lot of suffering, but each day brings new levels. Once the cure has started it carries on, on its, self help has worked for me, gradually exending my safety zone. I am not fully there yet, but I am sure I will get there to being able to walk around any where is my aim.

The Internet has been along with my Doctor one of my best devices to communicate. Isolation was a big thing for me, very intense and very heart breaking, but with pages like this group around and the pages to advice people like there are now are the new way forward and they work, people do find the cure.

Don’t give up, keep going, a pace at a time.

Congrats to you Paul. You should be very, very proud of yourself. I applaud you and hope that each day gets even better for you. You have come a long, long way.

I notice that alot of the people don't respond when someone posts a success story. I for one love hearing about them. It gives all of us hope and lets us know that we can get better.

Thank you so much for sharing your story.

Cheryl
