Despite my setback of having to leave my cousin's party early on Saturday (see earlier thread), I had two positive steps this weekend.
On Friday, I went to a get-together at my friend Chris' apartment. I was a little nervous, but I knew my car was just outside so that I could leave whenever I wanted to. However, Chris volunteered to go to the groceries to pick up some things for the dinner party. I went along, but he drove and I began to get a little nervous thinking that he doesn't know I have agoraphobia and I have no easy escape from the grocery store since he's the one driving. But it turned out okay! Incident free. I just used deep breathing and positive thinking.
Just now I went to church without a single panic symptom. That's the first time I think in 2 years! I showed up on time and stay until after communion.
I guess all in all, it was a good weekend.

Good on ya Jason! I know how it is when you're with someone who doesn't know about your condition. It makes me more anxious and I start to feel trapped. Once I told all my friends about my problem it took a huge weight off my shoulders. Anyways, good job-be proud. Success stories always inspire me to try to do stuff again knowing that it can be done.

You go guy!!! WOOHOO
That is awesome!!! I am agoraphobic and go to a store about a mile from my house, and when I stay longer than a minute or two, I feel great. Last week I stayed for like 20 minutes, I know how you feel.

Jason,
Wonderful!!! A gold star here to shine upon you. I too over the past few months, have found strength through God. I haven't in a few years didnt attend church myself, because I had to leave during church (onset of having a panic attack). So it became a place I avoided. I always was brought up with religion, and attended church regularly when I was younger, but it became more of obligation to me, and I took God for granted in those days, only praying when I needed something.
Now I realize God is an everyday part of my life, and I yearn more and more to be more Christian, give thanks daily, and I have a better and more peaceful outlook on life knowing God is always with me. I have been able to go back to church twice in the past two weeks, and how I praise the Lord, that my time of reflection is helping to mature in my faith. Glory be to God!
God Bless you Jason, and I pray for all here.

Good for you Jason! That's great! Sounds like that's great progress! Sometimes I notice I handle things better soon after I feel I've 'failed' at something. Trish, this experience has made me much closer to God too, and that has helped me alot. I used to think that God was punishing me for something by giving me this panic. But now I know that's now true. He's there to help me, I only wish my faith would grow faster! Really, though, the Bible is full of verses that pertain to all of us - my favorite "But God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of peace, and love, and of a sound mind." AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you for the encouragement and replies... my prayers go out to everyone here.
Sometimes in my weakest moments, my faith in God wanes... and even that makes me feel horribly guilty. But I know that he loves me and cares for me, and understands what I'm going through.
"Be not afraid... though thousands of arrows fall around you... near you they shall not come." - Matthew

I love those quotes you guys- I have to add another one. "God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference."
One of my favourites.

As I got older I went back to some Catholic Churches(Which I was born & the rest of my entire family is-my mother converted) I liked going & understood the sermons better, I used to Go every week wehn I was in College, I even carried a Rosary in my backpack.
I try to grow in faith as much as I can but I'll admit it does slip away sometimes & I feel guilty too. When I stopped partying I got called a holy roller a couple times. That wasn't the reason I stopped though it was because I wanted to stop self-medicating myself. But everytime when it was time to stand up towards the end when I hear that word ANXIETY from the priest I had little panic attacks in church! I just tried to stare at the Cross, try to contol my breathing & think to myself how can I have a panic attack in church?! Of all places?!
Last time I went was a while ago...
I still pray everynight...it's been very deep lately but I also feel real guilty sometimes that I'm just doing it because I need God in my life more then I ever did, which is true but I just don't know sometimes...
Put it this way...I'm pretty confused about religion.. I need to look into it some more I guess
I know that were all His children & creations though & when I say I pray for everyone on this board & people out there that suffer this I truly mean it.
P.S. Has anyone heard about the controversial Prayer of Jabez? I saw a big documentary against it on a evangelistic channel a few weeks ago..
I'm not gonna post it cuz I don't know exactly what to make of it.
Goodnight & my prayers go out to everyone
