Like Nick I cut out the coffee when I feel anxious.   On anxiety free days though, I find 1 or 2 cups of coffee do not increase my anxiety.  If anything, they seem to relax me although that's probably more  a result of the just sitting still for several minutes and dong nothing while I sip the coffee.  I think it is more the fear that the coffee will increase my anxiaty to panic attack levels than anything else that stops me drinking coffee when I'm having a bad day.

Please keep in mind that 5HTP is not to be mixed with most anti-anxiety drugs.  You can find out for sure by going to www.gnc.com, click on "Healthnotes" in the lefthand column and scroll down to use the "Safety Checker."

I don't take any anti-anxiety med's right now!

Have you ever tried it by itself?

Yes, I have and so has my sister.  It seems to work pretty good.  I'd suggest building it up slowly like you do when you start a new med.

Hi Carmela,

I responded to your question about 5-HTP in another thread too - so please forgive the repetativeness.  I wanted to reinforce that you really should discuss this with your doctor - or even your pharmacist before you consider starting it.  From what I read about this type of supplement I got the impression that it is not for everyone and that not a lot is known about long-term effects.
