My major panic attacks have always been nocturnal where I wake from sleep.  They include diarrhea, nausea and vomiting, which leave me sick and exhausted for at least half the day.  I tried Lexipro for a month.  It made me so sick.  I had nausea, diarrhea and muscle spasms in the middle of the night.  I've been off for 5 days and I still am woken up by diarrhea in the morning and a bit of nausea.  I try to go back to sleep, but I wind up needing to use the bathroom several times.  This makes me anxious and I get up feeling edgy.

When I get anxious, my stomach reacts first by knotting up.  How do I stop that from happening?  Alot of times I'm barely noticing what I'm thinking about and wham, the stomach jumps in.  Then I have to deal with the anxiety by breathing and talking to myself.  Sometimes It goes away quickly, sometimes more slowly, especially first thing in the morning.  I also seem to get it alot in restaurants or while eating a meal, when I have to sit still for awhile. It makes my appetite disappear and I feel woozy until it goes away.

I'd really like to avoid the drugs if I can.  I take 1/4-1/2 a Xanax (.25mg) when I really feel jittery.  (I think I'm really sensitive to medication, so that's all I need, even though the doc said I can take 2 at a time if I needed it, but that knocks me out.)  I haven't had a major nocturnal attack since I was told what they were, started seeking MD help and talked to a pychologist, but the issues that triggered them are still there (medical problems).  How do you control your thoughts 24/7 and think positively when your body is not well?  And why does my stomach have to be involved?  I hate feeling sick.  Ideas?

You are not alone.  *hugs* I feel that nausea is a trigger for me and since I have only just started taking Faverin I feel sick pretty much all the time. I am considering going off these drugs as I only started them a few days ago. I don't like the nausea or the delayed response time (they make me dopey).  I was less anxious without them.  I haven't tried Xanax but I keep hearing that they good to settle you down when you get wound up. Do they have any other side effects at a low dose? I am also interested in anyone's ideas on how to get around the nausea.
Keep your chin up Smile

Xanax is very addicting, but if used only occasionally when needed, my doc said that it should not be a problem. I find it very strong and very sedating, but the Lexapro (SSRI) made me so ill that it was worse than the anxiety.  I think my nausea is still a side effect of coming off the drug plus I have an inner ear disorder that makes me dizzy for months at a time and it's pretty bad now, too.  Look up xanax on the internet.  I think you can find the manufacturer's site and it will describe the side effects.  Thanks for the response!

I used to get vertigo as a side effect of migraine. It sucked.  I have been getting that same sort of feeling I used to get just before I would start to spin in the last few days. Scarey since I haven't had a vertigo attack in at least 4 years. (touch wood) I have been given a script for Xanax. I think I will only take them as a last resort if all else fails. I stopped taking my Faverin. Couldn't cope with the nausea since I'm also on Somac for stomach ulcers and they also have dry mouth and nausea as side effects also.  I will get through this if no no other reason than it is so **** annoying.
